Privacy policy

SurfBase is a free surf-town planner. You can browse without an account and without telling us who you are. Creating an account is optional and adds two things: a private list of saved towns and a set of planning preferences.

We count page views with Vercel Web Analytics so we can see which towns people look at and where visitors arrive from. It is cookieless and first-party: no cookies are set, no advertising identifiers are used, nothing follows you across other sites, and we can't identify you from it. What we see is aggregate only — pages viewed, country-level region, browser type and the referring site.

• Your email address and authentication identity (via Supabase).
• The towns you save (slugs only).
• Preferences you set: surf level, board type, wetsuit tolerance, monthly budget band, home timezone and work hours.

We do not store payment details, and we do not sell or share your data.

Your saved towns and preferences are shown back to you and used to pre-fill your search. Preferences never change how towns are ranked for anyone else, and are never included in shareable links or in the analytics described above.

If you sign in with Google, we receive your email address and basic profile identity to create your account. We request no other Google data.

Town pages show an interactive map using OpenFreeMap (OpenStreetMap data); your browser fetches map tiles from that service directly. Clicking a venue pin opens a live Google details panel (ratings, reviews, photos) — only then does your browser contact Google Maps Platform, which may receive your IP address and device information under Google's own privacy policy. The “find a place to stay” buttons are outbound links to Agoda, Booking.com and Airbnb — we don't book anything or pass on your details, and some links may earn SurfBase a commission at no cost to you.

If you sign up for the SurfBase letter, we store your email address, the page you were on, and (for searches) the filters you had set. We use it only to send an occasional letter — new towns and spots as we map them, and how the places you signed up from are changing. We never share or sell it, and it is never used for third-party marketing. To unsubscribe or have it deleted, reply to any email from us or write to hello@digitalnomadsurf.com. We keep it until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it, at most 24 months without engagement.

You can delete your account at any time from the account page. Deletion is immediate and permanent: your account, saved towns and preferences are removed.
